Life is not about mastery or perfection. It is about making an effort. It is about trying to be a decent person, trying to learn from mistakes, trying to learn new things, trying to be grateful, trying to enjoy what we have. It is about trying to do these things without “mastering” them.
It is about going to bed at night knowing you are being the best you that you can be, and knowing that you will continue to do so tomorrow, without aiming for a final outcome or result.
It is not about getting down about not finishing that project, not reading that book, not eating to plan, snapping at colleagues, not being patient with your partner, saying “the wrong thing” to a client; nobody in the history of existence has been “perfect”.
“Perfection” is subjective, and includes flaws, weaknesses and other humanly traits. For these are what make us perfectly human.
It is enough that you just be aware and you just try. That should be enough to put you to rest at night.
And if you can’t put your mind to rest at night? That’s ok, you’re trying.
