Travel, for me, is not a holiday from everyday life nor is it running away from my problems. In my eyes, travel IS life; or at least a big part of it! Travel is not just a physical journey in a new environment, it is an internal journey within myself; seeing my reactions to challenges, to new wonders, to the sweetness of humankind, to the madness of humankind, to the majesty of nature. Travel brings me alive like nothing else does. It quenches my curiosity and my burning desire for the unknown and unfamiliar, and sparks further curiosity.
Yes I complain at times whilst travelling, of course, I’m human. Plane delays, booking mistakes, overcharges, illness, loneliness, rudeness. However, I acknowledge that these are all parts of my journey, and with each challenge I become better at dealing with these obstacles and the unexpected. Practice makes perfect!
I share my travel photos on social media, not to evoke jealousy or attention, but in the hope that they may inspire others to explore the world, the unknown, different cultures, different landscapes; to expand the horizons of your mind, for once expanded they cannot retract to the way they were. I never tire of discussing travel, people’s experiences, their thoughts and how travel has affected them, how they reacted to things in other countries, their future plans.
I enjoy the reminder that I am insignificant in the grand scheme of the world, yet significant enough to make small differences to those I come in contact with.
So on that note: go forth and explore!
